Well, I allowed myself 2 hours to the blog today and I used up every minute and then some. Heading off to work in the sewing room , will add more as time permits. Have a great day!

Some of the 6- hour love quilts that were made in memory of my Grandfather Andrew Chavez! The ornaments were made after he passed away; for his 11 living children, with the left over fabric from his blanket and locks of his hair. He was laid to rest with his love quilt... makes me smile to know he has it with him!
When Grandpa got sick, I wanted to somehow give him comfort, also while visiting him in the hospital I met a young mother. She was pulling her daughter around the halls of the hospital in a wagon. The little girl smiled and the Mom lovingly touched her little head. You could see the look of anguish in the young mother's eyes. Little did I know, this was my first lesson in how cruel cancer could be. There is never a day when you are given a green light of hope... just repeated days of battle and a will to live. I cried all the way home. I found a website that explained to me about the "6 hour Love Quilt", by Kaye Wood. These lap quilts are made with love and given to the brave warriors. I made my first one that night and delivered to the hosptial the next visit with my Grandfather. I also made myGrandfather one, and my grandmother and after he passed I made many more and donated them to the hospitals cancer unit. It helped me with my pain... and there was lots of it... some days it comes back and that is when I find another person that needs some hugs....which is what a quilt can do!
My Grandfather, the most wonderful, loving, giving, funny, caring man you could ever hope to meet. He passed away in 2004 and my life changed .

Next in my life... I had some horrible turn of events. I lost a young niece in a tragic car accident and in creating memory gifts to give to the family. I was able to work through some grief... little did I know how this would help me a couple years later when I also lost my Grandfather to cancer. These are a few of the items I made. The pillow is made from fabric where I used flowers from her funeral and pounded the color unto fabric. I gave the pillow to her Mother,  I used her clothes for the quilt made for her grandmother. I also sewed a quilt for a friend's sister, that lost her son to a violent crime, his killer was never found, but I do hope this quilt gave her come comfort.  It was fringed around the outer borders when finished, but I couldn't find the photo. This little bag is what her ashes were placed in as we laid her to rest. I miss her everyday.

Let's see, I will start with some simple 9-patch quilts that got me started with my love of cutting fabric up and sewing it back together! I also love to embroider. These were some of my first quilts many years ago. I wish I had the good sense to take pictures of all that I did... but I was usually in a hurry to deliver...LOL, if you sew... you know how that goes!
To start I will add my precious grandsons... one of my main reasons for making blankets!
